Association of participants of barricades of 1991 in collaboration with Museum of the Occupation of Latvia 1940 – 1991 have started a realization of the project “Espousal of united understanding about 20th century history”.
Society Integration foundation is co-financing the project by giving 26 999, 26 LVL for its realization.
The project aims to promote the integration of Latvian society and united understanding of 20th century events.
The biggest part of events will take place in Riga, but several activities will be held in Latvia’s regions, trying to cover as wide territory as possible. Project will be realized from November 1st, 2013 till October 31st, 2014.
Project’s direct target group are kids and youngsters (10th till 12th class students) from Latvian and minority schools from whole Latvia. Project’s indirect target group is history teachers, who work every day with direct target group.
Several activities are planned during realization of the project, which in Latvian and minority youngsters will cultivate united understanding about minority positive role in Latvia’s history. Following activities will be realized in project:
- Research about minorities’ role in Latvia’s 20th century history.
- Organization of educational seminars for history teachers and distribution of methodical materials.
- Organization of historical reconstruction games.
- External seminars with museum-bus to Latvia’s schools.
- Development of educational animation for the youngest pupils.
As a result of the project 20 000 students will have taken part in activities, which cultivate their understanding about Latvia’s history and will motivate to think about national minorities’ role in Latvia’s history.
